Nyay Shibir
A Nyay Shibir is a single day in a village hall. Advocates and volunteers sit with whoever comes, speaking in Marathi, and go through papers that some families have carried with them for years. By the time the hall closes, no one should leave without knowing what to do next.
What is usually taken up
- - Land records, family disputes, a woman's rights, a benefit refused, or money missing from an account.
- - Establishing which office is genuinely responsible, so that the back and forth can come to an end.
- - Explaining what a form or application needs, and checking whether free legal aid already covers you.
- - Answering questions on WhatsApp afterwards, since the day ought not to end at the door of the hall.
What we would not claim
- - That an advocate will take up your matter or appear in court. We only advise.
- - That a court or an office will decide a matter in your favour.
- - That money lost to a fraud can be recovered.
Upcoming shibirs
Nothing is fixed just at the moment. The date is put up on our Instagram page as soon as a hall is confirmed. If you would like a camp held in your village, do ask us — that is how most of them begin.
